Degree Overview Open Accordion

The Interior Products and Retailing (IPR) bachelor’s degree is designed for students interested in the business side of the design industry. If you want to work with manufacturers, showrooms, retailers, product brands, or design professionals, this program helps you build the industry knowledge and practical skills to turn that interest into a career.

Unlike studio-focused design degrees, IPR centers on the products that shape interior spaces and the systems that bring them to market. Students develop knowledge of interior furnishings, materials, consumer preferences, and business strategy while learning how to connect design ideas with product solutions in real-world settings.

Through a shared core curriculum, students explore residential and commercial interiors, products and materials, history and culture, color and lighting, environmental and building systems, codes, technology, consumer behavior, and business principles. This foundation prepares graduates to work across the interiors ecosystem and support collaboration among manufacturers, retailers, designers, and clients.

Focused on Problem-Based Learning and Integrative Approaches

IPR courses emphasize problem-based learning and integrative approaches to interior products and retailing. Students examine how design affects human well-being while building practical knowledge of how products are selected, presented, marketed, and sold.

Students can tailor their studies through one of two specialization options:

Merchandising

Build skills in product selection, inventory management, and consumer trends. This specialization prepares students for careers in retail buying, product development, and visual merchandising within the interior products industry.

Retail Environments

Learn how retail spaces are planned, presented, and experienced. This specialization prepares students for careers in store planning, visual merchandising, and retail display, blending creativity with strategic thinking to enhance the customer experience.
